Optimarket purchased the Caspian Sea's first and only deep-water drilling rig, new but unfinished, in 1994. The land locked nature of the Caspian Sea had isolated most of the unexplored oil fields from the required technology and equipment necessary to fully explore, develop and unlock the economic potential of the Caspian Region. The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) approved Optimarket's project plan.
